''Plasmodium bucki'' is a parasite of the genus ''Plasmodium'' subgenus ''Vinckeia''. Like all ''Plasmodium'' species ''P. bucki'' has both vertebrate and insect hosts. The vertebrate hosts for this parasite are mammals. == Description == The parasite was first described by Landau ''et al.'' in 1989.〔Landau I., Lepers J.P., Rabetafika L., Baccam D., Peters W. and Coulanges P. (1989) ''Plasmodia'' of lemurs in Madagascar. Ann. Parasitol. Hum. Comp. 64(3):171-184 〕 The infected erythrocyte becomes enlarged and stippled. The stippling resembles Maurer's dots.
